Lead Collective Impact Initiatives

The practice of Collective Impact launched a decade ago. Since then, much has been learned about how to successfully launch and lead this disciplined form of multi-sector collaboration. One key to success is the ability to build and sustain an effective backbone infrastructure that includes leaders and staff with the skill and capacity to engage a diversity of perspectives with the will to create – and implement – a common agenda and implementation plan to address their shared issue.

This three-part virtual workshop is designed specifically to build the capacity of Collective Impact backbone staff and leaders. Participants will leave with a solid understanding of how to translate the theory of Collective Impact into practice and have access to tools and resources to create and lead successful Collective Impact efforts.  

The workshop's curriculum provides opportunities to discover and apply proven approaches to develop and sustain Collective Impact initiatives.  Participants will have opportunities to share their own experiences and challenges and will leave this learning experience with greater capacity to effectively lead and facilitate a Collective Impact initiative through the 5 phases of maturity.  

Anyone with experience implementing Collective Impact knows that the framework is NOT a recipe. Learning how to adapt Collective Impact to your specific issue and the uniqueness of your community requires skill and artful leadership. Adapting your CI initiative in response to emerging opportunities and challenges is a necessary capacity to effectively lead this work.  Join us and invest in strengthening your own capacity to lead, facilitate and sustain your collective impact initiative as a catalyst to create a community-wide movement for change.

Meet Your Workshop Facilitator

Sylvia is a Consulting Director with the Tamarack Institute’s Learning Centre. She has both practical knowledge and first-hand experience in implementing Collective Impact initiatives and what it takes to mobilize diverse sectors to work together to find innovative solutions to transform their community’s aspirational vision for the future into reality.

Prior to joining Tamarack, Sylvia was the founding Executive Director to Headwaters Communities in Action (HCIA), a grassroots citizen initiative that fosters collaborative leadership and action in support of a long-term vision of well-being for Ontario's Headwaters region. Her work with HCIA was published as a chapter entitled, A Citizen-Led Approach to Enhancing Community Well-Being published in the Handbook of Community Well-Being Research. Sylvia completed her Graduate Diploma in Social Innovation at the University of Waterloo in 2013 where she explored opportunities to create change within regional food systems.
