Intersectoral action training
The Ontario Regional Office of the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has partnered with the Tamarack Institute to offer Ontario Public Health Units, government departments, NGOs and Ontario-based community partners in well-being a unique, 3-part virtual learning series to strengthen your collective capacity for intersectoral action to enhance well-being across the province. These learning sessions will be adapted to your needs based on your input.
This free learning series draws upon findings from Working Together to Thrive: Well-Being and Public Health a report by the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada, to provide Ontario’s public health units and their community partners, as well as other government departments or organizations in Ontario whose work impacts the determinants of health (i.e., environment, employment and education, income, culture, race/racism etc.) with an understanding of well-being and how it can be strengthened through intersectoral action. The three components of the learning series include:
1. A Webinar | Advancing Well-Being Through Intersectoral Action – Join PHAC’s Christine O’Rourke and Sylvia Cheuy, Tamarack’s Director of Collaboration on Feb 17, 2026 from 10:00-11:00am ET to explore the case for focusing on well-being through multi-sector collaboration. Be inspired by stories of intersectoral action and learn about their successes in advancing lasting change together.
2. A Virtual Workshop | Tools & Strategies for Intersectoral Action – Participants of this 2-hour, virtual workshop on March 4, 2026 from 1:00–3:00 pm ET will discover essential mindsets for effective collaboration; learn effective strategies to mobilize intersectoral action; and discover useful tools and resources to engage diverse perspectives, share data meaningfully and engage in shared problems-solving in order to translate these strategies into action. Tamarack’s Sylvia Cheuy will provide participants with stories, tools and resources that you can use to mobilize diverse partners to work together to enhance your community’s well-being.
3. 1-Hour Drop-In Coaching Sessions – Participants of this learning series have an opportunity to join one or more of five one-hour coaching sessions on March 10 & 11 at 10-11 am and 1-2 pm ET and March 13th at 12:30 – 1:30 pm ET to get tailored advice and support to translate the theory of intersectoral action into a reality within their own community. Tamarack’s Sylvia Cheuy will draw upon her own decades of experience mobilizing diverse sectors to provide further advice and/or resources to move your community well-being strategies into action. Bring your questions and come ready to share your own insights with peers and leave with greater confidence in your ability to be a catalyst for intersectoral action in your own community.
You are welcome to join any or all of these learning opportunities and, of course, we encourage you to invite your community partners to join you. Please RSVP here to confirm your participation.
