ABCD in Action Tour - Victoria

Monday, October 20, 2025

9:00 AM - 4:00 PM PT | Antechamber in Victoria City Hall

Meet the Event CO-host

Join the Tamarack Institute and the City of Victoria for a powerful, hands-on workshop exploring Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) and its direct connection to the City's Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan. As we work together to build safer, more inclusive communities, this session invites us to challenge our assumptions, embrace diverse definitions of safety and success, and recognize that meaningful change begins with the strengths already present in our neighbourhoods.

By listening, learning, and acting differently, we can strengthen the protective factors that support wellbeing, such as connection, dignity, and inclusion, while addressing the root causes of harm and exclusion. Hosted in partnership with the City of Victoria’s Neighbourhoods team, this workshop is an opportunity for residents, neighbourhood associations and community builders to reimagine what's possible when we lead with assets, not deficits.

What You’ll Learn at the Victoria Workshop

Hosted in partnership with the City of Victoria, this in-person workshop explores how Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) can bring strategies and plans to life by centring the strengths, relationships, and leadership already present in communities. Using Victoria’s new Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan as a real-world example, we’ll look at how ABCD can be applied to any local initiative,  from neighbourhood development to city or town-wide strategies.

During this session, participants will:

  • Learn what ABCD is,  and what it is not.

  • Understand why this approach is more relevant than ever,

  • Explore how to apply ABCD in your work, strategies, and local plans, and

  • Shift your mindset to centre community strengths, relationships, and resident leadership.

Whether you're from Victoria or beyond, this session offers practical tools and a fresh perspective for anyone working to create safer, more inclusive, and community-led change.
