ABCD in Action Tour - Edmonton

9:00 AM - 4:00 PM MT | CALDER COMMUNITY LEAGUE

Meet the Event CO-host

Hosted in partnership with the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL), this workshop focuses on how Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) can strengthen neighbourhoods and align efforts across the city. Supporting over 160 volunteer-led leagues, EFCL has long been committed to helping residents build vibrant, connected communities by focusing on the strengths and leadership already present in each neighbourhood.

What You'll learn at the Edmonton workshop

This session will explore how ABCD can support better alignment across systems, clarify roles and responsibilities between institutions and communities, and help all partners understand what exists before determining what’s needed. EFCL’s deep, city-wide experience in neighbourhood connection makes them a natural host for this gathering, where we’ll explore how to grow communities from the inside out—starting with the gifts of residents, associations, and local places.

During this session, participants will:

  • Learn what ABCD is,  and what it is not,

  • Understand why this approach is more relevant than ever,

  • Explore how to apply ABCD in your work, strategies, and local plans, and

  • Shift your mindset to centre community strengths,  relationships, and resident leadership.

Whether you are from afar,  part of a league, a city department, a service provider, or simply someone who cares about your neighbourhood, this workshop will help you reimagine what’s possible when we work with community, not around it.
