Tamarack Institute Webinar

Municipal Leadership in
Climate Adaptation and Resilience

April 30, 2025 | 1:00-2:00 PM ET

Description

Join us for a conversation on how cities and communities across Canada are navigating extreme weather events and demonstrating leadership when it comes to strengthening local climate adaptation and resilience.

We’ll be diving into this topic with Rebecca Alty, Mayor of Yellowknife, and Don Iveson, former Mayor of Edmonton and Executive Advisor of Climate Investing and Community Resilience at The Co-operators.

What to Expect

Mayor Alty will share insights from leading Yellowknife through the unprecedented 2023 wildfires, discussing emergency response, community resilience, and lessons for other municipalities facing climate-related crises. Don Iveson will speak to his experience as mayor of one of Canada’s largest cities and will explore his current work at The Co-operators and as a member of the Canadian Climate Institute’s Expert Panel on Climate Adaptation, highlighting innovative approaches to climate adaptation, risk reduction, and financial resilience for communities.

Whether you are a municipal leader, policymaker, community organization, business leader or active resident, this webinar will help you unpack strategies for building climate-resilient communities, fostering collaboration, and advancing equity-driven adaptation plans.
