Collaboration is critical for organizations and people working to improve communities. And yet, many collaboration leaders express frustration that not all members of their collaboration table have the same level of commitment to each other and the shared goal. These members may have joined the collaboration but may not be fully committed.

Tamarack recently published a new resource focused on building accountability across collaboration teams. The accountability matrix is designed to clarify the roles, relationships, impact and decision-making practices of collaboration tables. In the resource, accountability is defined as the relationship between the different partners involved in the collaboration. There is the personal accountability that an individual brings the collaboration, that they will live up to their commitments. There is also the collective accountability between the partners to ensure that the collaboration is moving forward successfully and achieves its defined goals.

In this webinar, Liz Weaver and Sylvia Cheuy to explore how collaborations can benefit from building an accountability matrix. The goal of an accountability matrix is to create clarity of roles, expectations and contributions of collaboration partners and members. You will walk away with a deeper understanding of the resource and will have an opportunity to construct the first steps of your accountability matrix.

Liz Weaver, Co-CEO of Tamarack Institute

Liz Weaver is the Co-CEO of Tamarack Institute and is one of the consulting directors at the Tamarack Learning Centre. The Tamarack Learning Centre advances community change efforts by focusing on five strategic areas including collective impact, collaborative leadership, community engagement, community innovation and evaluating community impact. Liz is well-known for her thought leadership on community leadership and collective impact. She is the author of several popular and academic papers on the topic. She is a co-catalyst partner with the Collective Impact Forum. Liz is passionate about the power and potential of communities getting to impact on complex issues.

Sylvia Cheuy, Consulting Director, Collaboration, Tamarack Institute

Sylvia Cheuy is a Consulting Director of the Tamarack Institute’s Collaboration Idea Area. She is passionate about community change and what becomes possible when residents and various sector leaders share an aspirational vision for their future. Sylvia believes that when the assets of residents and community are recognized and connected, they become powerful drivers of community change. Prior to joining Tamarack, Sylvia was the founding Executive Director to Headwaters Communities in Action (HCIA), a grassroots citizen initiative that fosters collaborative leadership and action in support of a long-term vision of well-being for Ontario's Headwaters region. This experience gives Sylvia practical knowledge and first-hand experience of what it takes to engage and mobilize positive community change.
