governing collaborative efforts is challenging.

This workshop will dive into the governance and leadership components required to support the collaborative process. At Tamarack, Collaborative Leadership is considered a critical element of the 5 practices of community change. Collaborative Governance and Leadership weaves together the process and people aspects of effective collaboration. Practitioners will learn that it is a fine balance, requiring a deep investment in building connections and engagement while also ensuring that the practice, structure, and decision-making approach are defined and effectively implemented.

Join Liz Weaver for this virtual workshop designed to provide an opportunity to explore the key theories related to collaborative governance, tools, and approaches. This workshop will also focus on the impact and engagement of leaders in the process of co-designing and working collectively toward a shared and common goal. Participants in this interactive learning session will deepen their understanding of what is required to create the conditions for collaborative efforts to achieve their full potential. Participants will also have access to tools and resources that can be used to support and sustain collaborative efforts from idea to impact.

Learners will walk away with ideas, tools, and approaches that they can use to enhance the effectiveness of existing and new collaborative efforts. From navigating the collaborative spectrum to understanding different forms and expressions of collaborative leadership, this workshop will weave together different concepts. Come prepared to share your experience and insights as we learn together. Tamarack values small group interactive and workshop environments. We are intentionally limiting each virtual workshop to 70 participants to ensure that you can maximize your learning and connection. In 2023 this workshop regularly sold out, so we encourage you to register early to confirm your place.

Collaborative Governance and Leadership weaves together the two aspects critical to impactful collaboration. Many of us understand the importance of and the hierarchical nature of organizational governance. Collaborative governance is different. It is an approach where partners work collectively on a commonly held objective. Governance and decision-making are often shared. As leaders, we are asked to commit ourselves and our organizations to achieving shared outcomes.

But collaborative leadership and governance is often fraught with questions and challenges. Who to involve? How to get agreement and ownership of the shared goal? How to keep momentum and engagement? What to do when the process goes off the rails? How to define shared outcomes and success measures?

Determining the answers to these questions are critical to ensuring effective collaborative efforts achieving their goals. The practice of Collaborative Governance and Leadership focuses on building our capacity to understand people and forge new and purposeful relationships. It also asks that we engage in a new approach to governance, one that is co-designed, shared and builds toward co-ownership.

The workshop curriculum blends theory, practice and stories with useful tools and resources to provide participants with a solid understanding of the practice of Collaborative Governance and Leadership. As well, during the workshop small group conversations will enable participants to share their personal experiences, challenges, and successes. Peer learning is a critical component of Tamarack workshops.
