Workshop Costs

Tamarack is a charitable organization and has secured support from our sponsors to provide this training at a reduced cost to the participants. In our experience, learning opportunities are better translated into action when a committed group of learners attends together. Therefore we are offering subsidies for colleagues who enroll together.

The registration rates (in Canadian dollars) are as follows:

  • $1,495 per person for three or more colleagues from the same collaborative attending together
  • $1,695 per person for two people from the same collaborative attending together
  • $1,895 for single registration

*Group rates are available for groups of 5 or more. Email Natasha at natasha@tamarackcommunity.ca for more information.
*A select number of scholarships are available for those without the financial means to attend. See below for more information.

Your registration fee covers workshop tuition, light breakfasts, mid-morning snacks, lunches, afternoon snacks, and a book authored by one of our speakers.

*Tamarack encourages groups to register together and provides a registration fee discount for this. From time to time, Tamarack may offer additional discounts for our learning events. Individuals and groups may access a maximum of one discount per registration process.*

How can I apply for a Tamarack scholarship?

Tamarack hosts a number of single and multi-day learning events annually. These learning events are designed to provide participants with theoretical knowledge and practical tools that community change leaders can utilize in their work. The Be A Light Scholarship is designed to support individuals and/or groups to participate in a Tamarack Learning Event. The Tamarack Scholarship can only be applied to the registration portion of the Learning Event. Any additional costs incurred to attend, including travel, hotel, and incidental costs must be covered by the individual and/or their sponsoring organization.

*All scholarships for the Community Change Institute have now been awarded. Scholarships are still available for our other learning events. To apply for a scholarship for other events, fill out the application form

What is the cancellation policy?

We know that you don't want to miss out on this exciting learning event, but understand that sometimes unanticipated changes can affect your plans. This is why we have a cancellation policy that allows us to refund your registration fee up to 3 weeks in advance of the workshop start date, less a $150 administration charge which we need to put towards our overhead costs. At 20 days before the workshop, we are sorry that we can no longer offer refunds, but will gladly admit confirmed substitutions up to 1 week in advance of the workshop so that someone else can benefit from the training.

Who will be there?

Participants of the 2017 Community Change Institute event will include a diverse mix of individuals from a variety of sectors and communities. This includes representatives from community organizations, businesses, funders, national, provincial and regional governments, researchers and community members. Throughout the event, we have deliberately created opportunities for participants to share their unique perspectives, and bring forward the issues and ideas that matter to them the most. At last year's Community Change Institute we had participants from nearly 10 different countries including - Canada, Denmark, Japan, United States of America, Scotland, Australia, Pakistan, Israel and Cameroon.

What will I learn?

The 2017 Community Change Institute is focused on strengthening the latest thinking and action towards community change. We will do this through world renowned keynotes, practical workshops, case studies, resources, tools, and experiences so that participants can accelerate their own learning within this emerging field. This will be achieved through the formal program, as well as through formal and informal opportunities for participants to make new connections with each other; inspire each other's learning; and, form an ongoing peer learning community. See our Experience page for more details.

What distinguishes the Community Change Institute from other Tamarack workshops?

The scale and scope of the Community Change Institute is ambitious: 5 days; numerous workshops; learning from world renowned keynote speakers, followed by discussion and synthesis in Learning Labs. This is a learning event – not a conference – and there is no other event like it. There is enough time to dig deep into issues and attention is paid to the progression of learning, generative knowledge creation, and physical and mental transformation. At the event, we do not provide easy answers but rather engage with you deeply about questions, challenges and opportunities, and help you to work through solutions to create a path forward.

Five days is the time you need to deeply immerse yourself in learning and to truly shift your thinking. Shorter workshops are great but this event gives you the time you need to truly transform some of the mental models that may be holding you back.

What are some of the exciting things to look forward to at the event?

Our Learning Commons – which is where we gather, mingle, and network throughout the week – this year the theme is Co-Create, with a special focus on the art of creating together. We're bringing together an artistic collective that will engage us throughout our week together.

We will turn the intangible into works for art. We also bring in music, yoga, community conversations, inspiration and humour to provide a holistic learning experience that aims to restore both your body and your soul. Most importantly, we are serious about having fun, being optimistic, and nurturing hope by creating an opportunity for you to experience the joy of being part of a true learning community. For more information about what you can expect to get from the event check out the Experience page

How can I prepare?

We will be arranging pre-learning opportunities for all registrants and will periodically send you material to read in advance of the event. We will also be providing you with opportunities to engage directly with the event's thought leaders and other participants in advance of the gathering in Vancouver.

What time does the conference start and end?

The conference starts at 8:30 am on Monday, September 25th. As for Friday, September 29th we plan to end at 1:00 pm (local Pacific Time) to allow lots of time for you to find lunch and catch your plane home.

Will there be free time?

Yes, if you want it! We have designed an urban retreat with optional, informal activities in the morning and evening outside of formal sessions. We hope they will rejuvenate you and help you learn and connect with your peers in different ways, but the choice is yours. You are also welcome to skip these offerings if you desire more time on your own.

Who is taking care of my travel and accommodation?

Participants are required to book and pay separately for their own travel and accommodations in Vancouver, Canada.

Travel and accommodation costs are not included as part of the conference fee. However, we have secured a group block with a discounted booking rate at the site of the gathering, the Radisson Airport Hotel Vancouver.
