The Tamarack Institute is pleased to host this workshop with Connect Wetaskiwin.
Connect Wetaskiwin is a community-led initiative dedicated to strengthening relationships, building local pride, and empowering residents to take action together. With a vision of a thriving, connected Wetaskiwin where people are aware of opportunities and take pride in their community, Connect Wetaskiwin identifies and links local assets, fosters strong community connections, and brings people together around shared goals to drive meaningful change.
Connect Wetaskiwin got its start as a member of the Tamarack Institute, using the principles of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) to shape its approach. With Tamarack’s guidance and the power of ABCD, the group grew into a strong, self-sustaining community effort. Their journey is a great example of how ABCD can spark lasting impact—and now, they’re bringing that experience full circle by hosting an ABCD workshop to inspire and support others on the same path.

What You'll learn at Wetaskiwin
Hosted by Connect Wetaskiwin, this in-person workshop explores the latest trends in community development and offers a powerful, people-first alternative: Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD). In a time when traditional approaches are falling short, ABCD provides a fresh, practical framework for creating change with the community, not for it.
-
During this session, participants will learn what ABCD is and what it is not.
-
Understand why this approach is more relevant than ever,
-
Explore how to apply ABCD in your work, strategies, and local plans, and
-
Shift your mindset to centre community strengths, relationships, and resident leadership.
This workshop is designed for grassroots leaders, community organizations, service providers, municipal staff, and anyone seeking to strengthen connections and collaboration at the local level. It’s especially relevant for groups looking to work better together across systems and sectors, clarify the roles between institutions and community, and build bridges that meet in the middle, where real change happens.
Come be part of a movement to reignite local pride, build strong relationships, and support meaningful, community-led action in Wetaskiwin and beyond.
