Basic Income: A Community of Practice Series

"A Basic Income Guarantee ensures everybody an income sufficient to meet basic needs and live with dignity, regardless of work status." The Basic Income Guarantee (BIG) is an old concept that has recently resurfaced due the changing labour market and rising health care costs. Governments at all levels in Canada and around the world are expressing interest in learning more about the feasibility of a Basic Income to reduce poverty and employment precocity, improve wellbeing, and create a more efficient welfare system. Pilots thus far have demonstrated that the income security provided by a BIG reduces stress and crime rates and increases education, housing and health outcomes.
